California History Day - 4th Grade

California History Day is an all day school event where the fourth grade classes participate in a number of activities tied directly to the 4th grade Social Studies curriculum. During this event, students will simulate the gold rush by staking a claim, setting up a “boomtown," collecting “gold nuggets,” and trading. Afterwards they will have an opportunity to visit different stations based on the time periods in California’s history: Native Americans, Spanish Missions, Mexican Ranchos, Gold Rush, and Pioneer Life. There will be games, cooking, crafts, relay races, panning for gold, dancing the Virginia Reel, and more!

4th Grade's California History Day takes place each May. (Parents/guardians of current 4th grade students will be notified of the exact date.)

5th Grade Colonial Day

As part of our study of colonial American history, all Laurelwood 5th grade classes will be participating in “Colonial Day”. The entire day will be dedicated to learning and reliving the Colonial experience as the students rotate through stations filled with hands-on, Colonial activities.

5th Grade's Colonial Day takes place each March. (Parents/guardians of current 5th grade students will be notified of the exact date.)
